Rovos Rail operates routes across southern and eastern Africa connecting Pretoria, Cape Town, Victoria Falls, Durban, Walvis Bay, Dar es Salaam and Lobito. Journeys range from 2-night escapes to 16-night transcontinental expeditions.
What types of accommodation are available on Rovos Rail?
Three suite categories are available. Pullman Suites (±7m²) with lower berths and en-suite shower. Deluxe Suites (±10m²) with a full size bedn and en-suite shower, and Royal Suites (±16m²) - the largest private space on any train in the world with a double bed, lounge area, and en-suite bath.
What dining experiences can I expect onboard?
All meals are included and served in elegant dining cars with silver service. Breakfast runs from 07:00 - 10:00, lunch at 13:00, afternoon tea at 16:30 and dinner at 19:30. Premium wines, spirits, cocktails, beers and soft drinks are included throughout the journey.
Are excursions included in the journey?
Yes. Guided off-train excursions and entrance fees are included as part of the standard Rovos Rail experience. Specific excursions vary by route - your concierge team can provide full details for your chosen journey.
What is the dress code onboard?
Smart casual is the norm during the day with smart attire required for dinner. Shorts and sportwear are not permitted in the dining or lounge cars after 18:00. The onboard atmosphere is refined and relaxed - think country house weekend rather than formal black tie.
Can I charter a private train for special events?
Yes. Rovos Rail offers full private train charters for corporate events, incentive travel, milestone celebrations, and wedding parties. Please enquire directly for private charter availability and bespoke routing, and pricing.
Are children allowed on Rovos Rail?
Children under 2 are not permitted. Ages 3-9 are charged at 75% of the adult rate, ages 10 and above pay the full adult rate. Rovos Rail is best suited to children aged 13 and above given the nature of the experience.
